Artists Collective 2008 - 2009 Workshop Schedule

Music Department

The Artists Collective’s Music Department offers group and private workshops in saxophone, flute, clarinet, trumpet, trombone, acoustic and electronic guitar and bass, piano, violin, drums and voice. Many instructors are selected students trained by Jackie McLean and faculty from the Hartt School of Music, University of Hartford, using his teaching methods, which include and emphasize improvisation. Sight-reading, theory and western classical techniques are also taught. René McLean, acclaimed multi-instrumental composer, educator, serves as artist-in-residence.

Music Workshops

Music students receive a half-hour private lesson once a week. Group music workshops are also available for many course offerings and consist of one to two hours of instruction, one day per week. Each student will receive quality instruction, plus the experience of a challenging music environment. Upon instructor recommendation, students may be reassigned for private lessons. Theory classes are offered to all music students on Saturday mornings. Selected students are invited to audition for our various music ensembles.

After School/Children's Voices - Choral and ensemble training, breathing, intonation, projection, pronunciation, as well as other singing techniques for selected 4th - 8th grade students. Younger students accepted through special audition.

Theory Group II – Continues with the study of major and minor scale construction, basic chord structure and analysis, music history, and challenging assignments in preparation for ensemble participation. Small beginner ensembles develop from this class.
